How to enable sound in Safe mode
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs dont run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.
Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. If a problem doesnt reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. If a problem doesnt reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
Objective:- the objective of writing this article is to tell you how to enable sound in safe mode which is not by default enabled in safe mode.Sometimes we need to enable sound in safe mode while doing troubleshooting as services of sound device either have a conflict with any other services in normal mode or any Malware or virus stop services for sound from loading or running properly.
After reading this article you would be able to enable sound in safe mode so in other words you would be able to play audio songs in safe mode.
How to enable sound in safe mode
When the computer is in safe mode, the Windows Audio service isnt started so you would not be able to play any sound that might have been caused by any other driver or software which is conflicting with sound driver or the security software or may be any malware or viruses. So in this case you might want to check if the sound is coming in safe mode but you could not do that as the Audio service and drivers are not loaded. So thats the time we are going to use this troubleshooting steps to start the windows Audio service in safe mode to enable sound in safe mode .
So to start any service in safe mode you have to first make it a safe service by adding the name of the service in safe mode services load list and then starting the service in safe mode.
But if you want to start the service of any hardware device in safe mode whose drivers are not loaded in safe mode by default, you would also need to make the driver of that hardware load in safe mode by adding its drivers key in safe mode driver list.
To know the driver key of any hardware
Step 1. Open the device manager by typing Devmgmt.msc at run.
Step 2. Go to the Device type and expand it by clicking on the triangle or the plus sign and then right click on the device you want to load driver for in safe mode.As we have right clicked on the Realtech High Definition Audio in the picture below.
Step 3. Click on the properties and go to the details tab select Driver Key under property drop down list and it will show you the value of Driver key.Make a note of the value by copying it to a notepad.

To Enable sound in Safe Mode
Step 1. Go to run and type Regedit to open registry editor.
Step 2. In Registry Editor Navigate to the following location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBoot
List services in safe mode with networking |
Step 3. Now if you expand SafeBoot key here you would find two sub keys named minimal and network so the minimal is for normal safe mode and network is for safe mode with networking. Here you have to expand the one according to your environment you are logged into if you have started the computer in safe mode with networking then expand Network otherwise minimal.
Step 4. Now here under Network create a key to load the driver of sound by right clicking on it and selecting new --> Key and copy the Driver Key after removing 007 and Replaing all lower-case letters with capital letters and paste it into the key name as shown in the picture below.
Step 5. Now on the right side edit the (Default) key and type the device type name as for me it would be Sound, video and game controllers.
Step 7. Now to start the sound in safe mode you also need to enable all of its dependent services which are AudioEndpointBuilder, MMCSS and Audiosrv. So create a new key called AudioEndpointBuilder, MMCSS and Audiosrv
Edit all their (Default) keys and type Service.
Step 8. Now restart the computer and type the following command line on the command prompt run as administrator to finally start the Audio services in safe mode.
net start AudioEndpointBuilder
net start MMCSS
net start Audiosrv
And the sound is enabled in safe mode now.You can now go ahead and play a songs in safe mode.

How Private is Googles Incongito Mode
How Private is Googles Incongito Mode

With the increase in the number of users of internet globally cyber crimes have also increased remarkably and people should try to be more careful while using the internet than ever before. In the age where almost everyone has access to the internet privacy is one of the most important things that you should worry about while browsing on the internet.
If you are using a public computer for general search like for the schedule of the football world cup fixtures or look for the weather report, privacy is not entirely necessary. But if you are booking a table in a restaurant online, shopping online by using your credit card, checking your bank account, logging into your social media profile or checking your email you need your browsing to be private.
If you are browsing in a public computer you need to be aware that the data you search can easily be accessed by someone else who uses the same computer after you. Mostly people who want their browsing to be private and dont want anyone to see what they search on the internet remove the history manually after they are done. The traces are removed by clearing the cache and cookie files to completely remove the history. It can also be used specifically for the sites you want to be cleared. They can be removed selectively and the process which does not take much of your time.
Privacy on the internet is now taken very seriously and most modern browsers ship have a private browsing mode that you can be start independently. This helps to avoid keeping the record of the sites visited and the information browsed in that session cannot be restored once the browser is closed.
Private modes of browsing of all the browsers are the same. A new window opens that is independent from the main session. Just like the main session users can open as many sites as they want to open.
There is however a difference between the functioning of Firefox private browsing mode and google chromes incognito mode.
In google chrome when you close the browser after using the incognito mode the data cannot be restored. Not everyone needs the private mode of browsing as If you search of a website of something that you need and after finding it you close the window than this information that you searched cannot be restored and if you do not remember the exact site that you searched you cannot reopen it as the data is not saved.
But in Firefox this feature is different. In Firefox data can be restored in the same way just like in the normal browser which is by using ctrl+shift-t. It can also be achieved by right click on the tab bar and undo close tabs from the context menu.
Other browser like opera and internet explorer also use private browsing. Opera is chromium based so its private browsing mode is just like that of google chromes incognito and the closed tab cannot be restored while internet explorer handles private browsing just like Firefox.
Comparing these browsers and their private browsing a question arises that is why these applications are different in re-opening the tabs once after they are closed. There is no official answer to this but an appropriate and logical reason can be that the browser that can re-open the closed tabs holds data on a window level while the browsers that cannot re-open the closed tabs in incognito mode like google chrome and opera hold data on tab level.
It makes google chromes incognito mode more private as there is no restoration of a tab once after it is closed.

How to start windows installer service in safe mode
When the computer is in safe mode, the Windows Installer service isnt started so most programs cant be uninstalled. Since technicians do a lot of work in safe mode and being unable to uninstall is a huge problem. If you start the service manually, an error message will come up saying Could not start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer. Error 1084: This service cannot be started in Safe Mode. This method will do a registry tweak so that Windows Installer is made a safe service and it will launch the Windows Installer service.
So to start any service in safe mode you have to first make it a safe service by adding the name of the service in safe mode service list and then starting the service in safe mode.So in order to do this troubleshooting you need to be in safe mode first.please follow the below mentioned steps to start Windows installer service in safe mode.

Start windows installer in safe mode using command prompt
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalMSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start msiserver
Start windows installer in safe mode with Networking using command prompt
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootNetworkMSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start msiserver
Note :- This is exactly what a so called SafeMSI freeware does.It is nothing but a .bat file which you could also create by typing above written two commands in a notepad and saving it with any name you want and run it under safe mode to start windows installer in safe mode.
Similarly you could also start any other service in safe mode by adding it to safe service list in registry.Just make sure you know the short name of those services to add a key name for it just as MSIServer for windows installer and Audiosrv for windows Audio service.
How to start Audio Service in safe mode
To Start Audio service in safe mode you also need to start all of its dependent services first.Windows Audio service depends on these three services so add them to safe service list and then start these service from command prompt.
- Windows Audio Endpoint Builder (AudioEndpointBuilder)
- Multimedia Class Scheduler (MMCSS)
- Windows Audio (Audiosrv)
You could start these services in safe mode using command line by typing the following commands.
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalAudioEndpointBuilder" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start AudioEndpointBuilder
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalMMCSS" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start MMCSS
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalAudiosrv" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start Audiosrv.
Now after this you would be able to start audio.
Note :- Similarly to start Print Spooler service in safe mode, add Spooler to safe service list and start it.To do this using command type the following command
REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalSpooler" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start spooler
Tips:- If you want a list of all drivers, driver groups and services starting in normal mode and their corresponding short names open services.msc and double click the service name and it will show you the short name of that service as shown in the picture below.
