Identify the Hardware installed in your computer to find its driver

Identify the Hardware installed in your computer to find its driver

If you have a custom designed computer or its an old computer or you reinstalled the operating system not from system recovery ( or PC Restore), You might not be able to install the drivers for all the hardware installed on your computer. If you go to device manager it would be listed under other device as Unknown Device.

So after windows installation you could get into trouble if the device driver is not found or can not be installed automatically because that device would stop working. So here are the steps to get that issue fixed.

Option 1

Step 1. Open device manager by typing Devmgmt.msc at run.
Step 2. Right mouse click on the unknown device and select properties.
Step 3. On the device properties window click on the Details tab and select Hardware Ids.

Step 4. Here you only need to note down these two information highlighted in the rectangle shown in the above picture-18(a).So as shown in the picture above note down VEN( Vendor ID) -168C ( as shown in the above picture) and DEV ( Part/Device ID )- 0032 as per the above picture.

Step 5. Go to website http://www.pcidatabase.com/ and then under vendor search Type the Vendor ID as 168C or whatever it shows in your device properties windows for that unknown hardware, and then hit search.

Pic-18(b)
Step 6. Now you will see the result on a different page with the name of the Vendor so Click on the Vendor name as shown in the picture -18(c) and then it will show you the list of all the device available from that vendor.

Step 7. so you will need to find the device with code mentioned in the Hardware Ids as DEV which is 0032 in my case.

Pic-18(e)
Step 8. Now here it clearly shows you the name and model of the device we were looking for with the link to find the driver of this device under Notes so you can probably go to that vendors website to download the driver for that particular Device Model which is installed in your PC.

Option 2

Option two is the easiest and best way to identify the unknown device. There is this tool name Hardware Identify from Tweaking.com.you can download it from the download tab of my blog or click here.

Tweaking.com - Hardware Identify will help identify unknown hardware on your system. This program does not help you download drivers but helps let you know what the hardware is so you know what drivers to find.

For example say you just reinstalled a computer and the device manager shows multiple unknown hardware with no drivers installed. Well you dont know what drivers to find since you dont know what the hardware is. Now with Tweaking.com - Hardware Identify you can see what that hardware is.

The program also has a easy option to help improve the device database. Once you have all drivers installed you can have the program check for any hardware on the system that isnt in the database and submit it to Tweaking.com. With in a few days the database will be updated and the device list will grow with the help of users like you!

Picture below was taken from Tweaking .com for the educational and instructional purposes.

Now here again you know the name and model of the device you were looking for so you can probably go to that vendors website to download the driver for that particular Device Model which is installed in your PC.

How Do You Know if It’s Hardware or Software That’s Behind a Problem

How Do You Know if It’s Hardware or Software That’s Behind a Problem

When your computer decides to act up, how do you decide if its a hardware problem or a software problem thats behind it? The tips that follow should help you determine where the cause of your problems lies.
When your computer has slowed down
Computer magazines and knowledgeable people often talk about older computers being slower. If you arent that familiar with computers, you may misinterpret what they actually mean.
A computer can be slow in two ways. One way is when it takes too much time to complete simple, everyday tasks such as starting up or opening programs. The second way is when it grows obsolete because modern programs make demands that it cant meet. An obsolete computer doesnt exhibit slowness when performing everyday tasks.
Any computer from the last 10 years should be able to start up in one minute and quickly load commonly used programs as long as it runs an OS that it was designed for. If you find that your computer takes much more time than it did before to merely start up or to fire up programs, the problem isnt usually the hardware. You may have malware or some sort of operating system housekeeping problem. Cleaning up the browser cache, defragmenting and running your antivirus program should take care of the problem. You dont need to buy a new computer just because it seems to have slowed down.
If your computers components are too slow for modern programs, the problem usually appears as a complete inability to work rather than a general slowness. For instance, if you run a Celeron from 2007, youll find that while browsers do open quickly, they arent able to play high-definition YouTube videos at all. It is when you see such complete inability to function that you should consider your computer old enough to replace. Theres an easy way to tell if your computers slowness comes from obsolete hardware -- simply go to the Task Manager and check out your CPU graph. If it is at or near 100% most of the time, your computer can no longer keep up.
You have a blue screen problem
In the past, blue screen crashes -- when your computer spontaneously crashed after a brief blue-colored error display -- used to be a Windows problem. They were so common and such a drag on Microsofts reputation that hundreds of jokes about it circulated the Internet. These days, though, Windows is a stable OS that rarely crashes on its own. If your computer has a frequent blue screen problem, the problem is usually  hardware-related or related to poorly programmed drivers that come with low-quality hardware. You should check either recently added hardware or recently installed drivers. If neither seems to be a problem, you can safely assume that you have failing hardware -- the motherboard, a graphics card or anything else.
If your computer refuses to start
A computer thats completely dead always has a hardware problem - it could be as simple as loose connections within the computer or as complicated as defective hardware. If your computer starts but doesnt go as far as fully booting up, it could either be the hardware or the software. You could try repairing your Windows installation or reinstalling Windows to see if it fixes the problems you experience.
Fixing computer problems can be a trial-and-error process
It can take a great deal of patience to narrow a computer problem down. The easiest way to tell if its the hardware or the software thats at fault in a particular problem is to reinstall Windows. If the problem persists, you can safely assume that you have a hardware problem.
Hardware problems dont always have to be major ones. If you have a frayed-out or rat-bitten cable going from your graphics cards to your monitor, for instance, it can make your computer spontaneously crash. Narrowing down a computer hardware problem can be painstaking work.

Get detailed information about your PC’s hardware with HWiNFO

Get detailed information about your PC’s hardware with HWiNFO

There are several handy free utilities out there that will tell you what hardware’s inside your PC, and one of the best I’ve ever used is one called HWiNFO.
Like Speccy, HWiNFO is a free program that provides tons of details about your system’s CPU, motherboard, memory and such.
But HWiNFO also provides a live snapshot of the CPU temperature and various system voltages, great information to have if you’re a computer tech or system builder.
Here’s a screenshot of the HWiNFO Summary page:

You can also drill down and view detailed information about every major hardware component in the system. Here’s another screenshot that shows the info provided about the installed RAM modules:

Does the average user really need all of this detailed info? Probably not. But it’s quite interesting nonetheless, and the info provided can be a big help if you ever need to call Tech Support.
HWiNFO is available for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows (choose the version that matches your PC’s Windows version). To find out what that is, simply right-click on the ‘Computer’ icon and click Properties.
Just Download and read installation instruction in downloaded file.
You can download HWiNFO from This Page.

How To Clean Video Game Consoles Hardware And Accessories

How To Clean Video Game Consoles Hardware And Accessories

How To Clean Video Game Consoles Hardware And Accessories

Aside from lag, having to clean your gaming equipment is one of the worst things that can happen to a gamer. Seriously, who cleans their things, anyway? Gaming is for fun, not doing chores. But in those rare occasions when you decide that your console cant really take much more, then you have no choice but to clean it, especially as far as dust is concerned. Dust is the biggest enemy your gaming set-up can possibly have. It can not only make your hardware run worse than it usually does, but it can also damage it beyond repair. And in the light of the holidays and the oncoming Christmas celebrations, when I assume many people get the new generation of consoles as presents, I decided to do a guide on how to properly clean and maintain and clean your console hardware and accessories. This will not only increase the longevity of your console, but it will also ensure that it runs great for as long as possible. Its not going to be pleasant, let me tell you that much, but its worth doing if you are a true enthusiast and plan utilizing your new (or old console) in the best way possible.

Unplug everything

This is possibly the most important step in the process. You need to unplug everything, otherwise you risk damaging the platform. Not only that, but you can also get hurt so its a good idea to apply extra caution. After all, you are working with sensitive equipment. Carefully unplug everything that can be plugged and make sure you dont forget anything.

If some of the accessories arent plugged (like your controllers or headset) and are powered by batteries, instead, remove the batteries. You want to discontinue all power supply to both the console and its components.

Cleaning the exterior

There are several things that you will need here in order to accomplish this fairly simple task. First of all, buying a microfiber towel would yield better results in the cleaning process, even though this part is optional. You can use any lint-free old rag you can get your hands on. You will need two of them – one for the processing and one for the drying out. Also purchase an electronics spray (the kind of spray you can use to clean all sorts of electronics, like laptops, consoles, monitors and more). Spray some of the solution on the cloth and wipe off all the surfaces of your hardware. Dry out with the other cloth immediately so you make sure that everything works well afterwards. Never spray directly on the surface of the console or any of the periphery. This may very well damage the devices so be careful.

Cleaning the interior

Cleaning the interior is a bit trickier. You should open the console because odds are you dont know what youre doing (otherwise why would you be reading this?) so you might damage it. Spraying compressed air into the air vents of your device would be enough to remove a large portion of the dust outside the console. This way you dont need to open it but you will still be able to clean most of it. Something to keep in mind is that compressed air comes out rather cold so you shouldnt be keeping the device too close to the source. Otherwise the air will condensate inside and damage the console.

Cleaning peripheral devices

Use a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol to clean the peripheral devices such as controllers, microphones, headsets, etc. Just make sure to dry it out immediately. If youre not confident in your abilities to clean the console properly, seek the help of a specialist.
